Holy crap, we have this problem here in the USA, but not do do with government in music. We have enough problem with them socialistic mutha\'s here! But this sounds like an attack against basic human rights, if someone like the government is preventing someone from being successful.Shayne, I am and always will be a fan, and no matter what just keep bringing those awesome songs out. I don\'t understand why they are not accepted as commercial. But what is commercial anyway?Just keep rocking man! A lot of people here have brought your album and it is one of the best I have heard so far this past year.Ciao,Zan.

From what I get of this, it\'s purely about a certain group of people (not just NZOA, but the clique that is the NZ music industry) that get to decide where those tax payer $$ go and that in fact the NZ Music Industry revolves around them and unless you have their backing, you don\'t have a chance in hell of \'making it\' - regardless of how good, skilled or \"commercial\" sounding you are. But it all makes for interesting reading, thanks for sharing. Good luck :)

Firstly, for that person that wishes to remain anonymous below... No it\'s not sour grapes and also I don\'t need to have NZOA decide if I show enough commercial potential, that is for my fans to decide, and for me to achieve. I don\'t apply for these grants myself.
I think NZOA is a good concept, but there are those who are socialising the music industry in NZ and taking advantage of tax $$$! It needs to change.

This is just stupid... it\'s not NZ On Air\'s fault your music doesn\'t show enough commercial potential that they wont fund it. Their primary goal is to help get NZ music onto commercial radio, they\'re not here to make you famous. As it states clearly on their website
\"NZ On Air\'s music initiative was first established in 1991 to fund, promote and prosper New Zealand music on New Zealand radio and television. With an emphasis on commercial airplay\"
No system\'s perfect and unfortunately in most industries there\'s always an element of who you know over what you know. This all a bit sour grapes dont ya think?
